Point Scholars are a new generation of LGBTQ leaders and changemakers in society. Thanks to the support of Point’s Internship Program by the Elton John AIDS Foundation and The Palette Fund, Scholars like Valerie Weisler are providing much-valued assistance to community-based organizations. They are also speaking up for LGBTQ rights globally, as HBO Point Scholar Daniel Berezowsky did in a recent opinion piece for the Washington Blade.

More than two dozen Point Scholars and Alumni came to Los Angeles in January for Point’s Medicine, Health and STEM Leadership Education & Affinities Development (LEAD) Consortium. They were joined by Point mentors, staff, and invited professionals in the health and STEM fields for thoughtful discussions and presentations. A highlight of the LEAD was the presentations by Point Scholars who completed internships with HIV/AIDS-related non-profits, thanks to the continued support of the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Other sponsors of the LEAD were The California Endowment, HSBC, and Wells Fargo.

Point is incredibly grateful to our volunteer application readers. Besides the time they devote to reading applications, they also go through training to ensure applications are reviewed in a fair and uniform standard.
